Town coronavirus update

The Town of Ponce Inlet is taking proactive measures to keep its employees and the public safe from potential exposure to the coronavirus, otherwise known as COVID-19.

The town is following guidance from the Governor’s Office, Florida Department of Health and Centers of Disease Control Prevention and using an abundance of caution to minimize potential exposure to employees and residents that may come in contact with the virus.

Here are steps the Town of Ponce Inlet is taking effectively immediately:

The town has canceled the following events: “Preschoolers in the Parks-Alligators”, scheduled for Friday, March 13th; “Spring Lecture Series” scheduled for Tuesday, March 17th; “Programs in the Parks”, scheduled for Friday, March 20th; “International Mermaid Day”, schedule for Saturday, March 21st and “Painting with Ginger”, scheduled for Saturday, March 21st. We will announce other cancellations through our website.

Town Council will be discussing cancellation of other events and meetings at their regular meeting on March 19th.

All Town Park bathrooms, water fountains, handles, etc... in the parks are being cleaned three times per day.

Customer service countertop surfaces at town hall are being cleaned after each interaction with residents and visitors.

Volusia County Government is actively engaged in continual meetings and situational updates with state and local officials regarding coronavirus. Volusia County’s Division of Emergency Management is working closely with the Florida Department of Health, the Florida Division of Emergency Management, Volusia County Schools, governmental agencies and partnering counties. Volusia County continues to collaborate with the FDOH by sharing information and monitoring what’s happening in other affected counties.

To aid in the prevention of spreading coronavirus, it comes down to one’s individual responsibility such as taking everyday preventive actions to help stop the spread of germs. The single most important steps in preventing transmission of coronavirus are washing your hands, avoid touching your face, and staying at home when you’re sick.

We will continue to monitor developments with COVID-19. The town has linked to the Volusia County COVID-19 Informational Page on our website for residents to learn how to protect themselves from potential exposure to COVID-19 -

We will continue to update our town social media page once new information is available.
