**Annual Maintenance of Port Orange Water Distribution System - beginning Thursday, August 9th**
The City of Port Orange Public Utilities Department will perform the annual flushing and maintenance activities on the water distribution system beginning Thursday, August 9th. This will involve changing the disinfectant from the chloramines presently used to free chlorine. Over a period of six weeks, the free chlorine residual will move throughout the distribution system, while city staff conducts a thorough flushing of the water mains. This is done annually to maintain the water distribution system. With the change in disinfectant, some customers may notice a difference in the taste of the water. During this time, the water continues to be of the highest quality and completely safe to drink. The maintenance and flushing activities will be completed on Thursday, September 20th, at which time we will return to chloramines. Areas affected by these activities are the greater Port Orange water distribution system, Harbor Oaks, Allendale, Ponce Inlet, and Daytona Beach Shores north to Thames Avenue. For any questions concerning this procedure, please feel free to contact water treatment plant personnel at (386) 506-5770.
